Lisbon Earthquake & Safety Measures
On February 17, 2025, at 1:24 PM, a 4.7-magnitude earthquake struck the Lisbon metropolitan area. The epicenter was approximately 14 kilometers west-southwest of Seixal, in the Setúbal district. The tremor was felt across various regions, from Central Portugal to the Algarve, causing concern but no reported casualties or significant structural damage. In Lisbon, residents experienced swaying furniture and brief power fluctuations. Precautionary evacuations occurred in several schools and health centers in Seixal, but operations resumed after safety assessments. Authorities continue to monitor the situation for possible aftershocks.
Following the 4.7-magnitude earthquake near Lisbon on February 17, 2025, there were several aftershocks and related seismic events.
